Overlapped Mixings
Mailbox Art Space, Melbourne
4 - 28 October 2017
This installation maps a response to the light-filled space of Pawson House using a range of translucent and opaque materials as the foundations that play with shadow, light and movement. A series of fabric panels made of collected and salvaged materials suspend and loop between the stairwell railings. Soft sculptural weights anchor the work in place to enhance the smooth, shiny surfaces of the fabric structures and their flexible possibilities. Constructed of shapes and cutouts reminiscent of the artist's previous painted works, each panel arrangement integrates remnants from earlier works. Overlapped positive and negative elements are sewn onto a vertical hanging, focusing on recurring patterns, processes and structure.
